Science and GOD

11:12:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

An atheist professor of Philosophy was speaking to his class on the problem Science has with GOD. He asked one of his new Christian Students to stand and . . .

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son ?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can't answer, can you ? Let's start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From . . . GOD . . .

Professor: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn't it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student : Yes.

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir . . . Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

P.S.
I believe you have enjoyed the conversation. And if so, you'll probably want your friends / colleagues to enjoy the same, won't you?

Forward this to increase their knowledge . . . or FAITH.

By the way, that student was Einstein.

What is LOVE?

2:07:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

Sometimes, poems come in handy. Just for an instance, our Lit3 teacher asked us to define LOVE in a concrete manner, using images. While my other classmates where fussing and thinking what to write, I all did was remember a poem I wrote 2 years ago. So here it is...

Love is...
...As beautiful as a flower blossoming in autumn
...As calm as the rain that falls on summer
...As warm as the breeze in the coldness of winter
....As silent as a falling leaf on spring time.

Love is...
...As sweet scented as a fine looking rose
But may be throbbing like its thorns
...As bright as a lighted candle
But may eventually bring darkness when it lose its radiance

Love is...
...As charming as the birds' chant after the rain
...as gentle as the rustling of leaves
...as pure as the innocence of  new born child
...as lowly as the trees that sways when the wind blows

Love is ...
...unselfish like a mother's fond care
... protective like a strict father
...enduring and persevering like a suitor
...understanding like a friend whom you offended

Love is...
...the willingness of a Master to sacrifice His own son
For the sake of His people's salvation
...the obedience of the Son to give up His own life
For the sake of His Father's will

Love is in the splendor of nature
Love is in the people around us
Love is indeed in every corner of this world
Though its definition varies from people to people
Everybody will agree that love is simply UNIQUE.

Forget Me Not

Forget me not when you're feeling blue
I'll be there to wipe your tears away
I'll give you my ears to listen
And I'll be your hero saving you from the meadow of distress.

Forget me not when you're alone
I'll be there to sit by your side
Forget me not when you can't speak your thoughts
I'll be your voice in front of thousand crowds.

Forget me not when you're in danger
I'll give you my strength to carry on
I'll be your courage to fight
And I'll take the pain your bruises might give

Forget me not when you swim into the deepest ocean of  bliss
When you climb the highest mountain of misery
Forget me not cause I am your Lord
And I'll always be with you in every second of your life...

In the Eyes of A Child

Albert Einstein. Leonardo da Vinci. Pablo Picasso. Thomas Alva Edison. Walt Disney.

They are world renowned people, great names, famous in their own field...but what else is common in them? They were people who had different childhoods than the rest of us. They saw the world in a different perspective. When children of their same age had no difficulty understanding letters and numbers, reading and writing, these people put up a brave face and proved the world that EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL.

This is the theme of the movie, Taare Zameen Par (Like Stars on Earth) or Every Child is Special. It was directed by Aamir Khan, one of my favorites, and it starred Darsheel Safary, alongside Khan himself. Safary, who played the role of Ishaan, was the main character of the film. Ishaan was a boy who repeated his Third Grade classes twice because he has difficulty in learning, which his father blames for lack of discipline. As the movie progressed, it was discovered that Ishaan had Dyslexia. His family was not able to learn about his condition until Nikumbh, an art teacher, played by Khan, discovered it. It was later found out that Nikumbh used to have the same disorder before. Ishaan, like Khan, has superb skills in painting, and later on, Khan used Ishaan's love for art to make him learn all the things children his age should learn. On the movie climax, Ishaan won in an art fair and defeated his teacher. Nikumbh and Ishaan's painting were used for the school's paper.

The first half of the film was sort of boring and dragging. It focused solely on the life of Ishaan. The music was unlively, too. However, there was a paradigm shift in the second half of the film. Here, Nikumbh entered the scene and the song on this part, was for me, the best in the whole movie. The second half was full of lessons and realizations.

The movie tells us that each and everyone of us is unique. Amidst us are gems who had changed the world, for they can see the world in a different spectrum.  If we want to, we, too, can make a difference. It doesn't always have to be big. Making a difference is not just in making great nor new inventions or theories. It's not about all those being famous and renowned.  Sometimes, it's in simply conquering your fear or correcting your mistakes, or better yet, in learning something new.

Ishaan's Award Winning Work

Some people view life as a tough battle of survival, a competition. Some parents are like that. And sometimes, because of this belief, they have built a life of pressure and high expectations on their children. And sometimes, it really is just too hard to please them or get the attention, care and love we wanted. Some even result to rebellion. The movie tells us not only that each one is unique. It tells us, particularly, the parents, that sometimes, their children don't feel enough love and care from them.

Lastly, the movie was overflowing with creativity and imagination. It shows us how great a child's imagination can be. However, only a small portion of this imagination is left, when we grow up. When words can't capture what you want to express, you can always turn to other alternatives. In the movie, Ishaan's way of expressing his self is through art.

Nikumbh's Work

Though I was bored in the earlier parts, the last parts certainly had made a mark on me. As for my last words, let me give you a few lines from the movie:

Free your mind.Spread you wings.Let the colors fly. Let's spin new dreams!

Basketball Craze

2:24:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

I thought that the moment the NBA finals was over, this basketball craze will be gone. But I thought wrong.

Ever since the cable was installed in our home, I got crazy over the basketball games. It's not so surprising, but I'm thinking I've gotten a little overboard. I don't know how to play basketball, but I sorta have a knowledge of the game. This liking started when I watched Slam Dunk years before. I guess it's okay to watch basketball games. What is not so okay is when you are opening the profile of the players and the teams, out of nothing. Ever since I got home for the long weekend, I was waiting for the replay of the Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals. When I finally saw it yesterday, I felt a little disappointed because it wasn't much of a good game but at the same time, happy for Dallas, alongside for Nowitzki, Terry and Kidd, for winning their first franchise championship.

After the NBA, here comes the PBA, which means, I'll still be under the basketball craze for a little while.Hahaha:)

Next Counter Encounter

2:08:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

My mom and I went to a mall in our province. It's not as big and popular as the Sm's and Robinsons, so you might expect some flaws in their customer service, especially since it's considered as the biggest mall in our place. So here's what happened...

We went to the counter to pay for some school supplies that my brother needs. When we were about to fall in line, the cashier told us to transfer to the nearby counter. We did as she told us, even though there wasn't any "Next Counter" signs. When we were on the nearby counter, the cashier of the other counter just went on entertaining people who were actually after us in the line. This made my mom so pissed of. She really blurted out that  what the cashier did wasn't right. She shouldn't have accepted other customers especially since she already told us to go to the next counter. My mom added that she should have placed a NEXT COUNTER sign to inform people. With this, the cashier and her bagger exchanged glances at each other and looked at my mom. My say? Well, I agree with my mom. I guess those cashiers shouldn't have entertained any customers after they declined us, even if the next in line were cute looking boys.Me, myself was pissed actually, and said that maybe they didn't entertain us because we were looking like poor people.

If that mall had a good competitor in our province, like SM   or Robinsons, definitely, nobody will like to go near their premises, knowing that their customer service really sucks!

A Pressure Free Night: Early Start of the Long Weekend

12:28:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

School nights had never been this pressure free. The long weekend's suppose to start on Saturday(obviously) but we have a special early treat this time. Our professor in one of our major subjects decided not to have a class today. Since Monday will be considered a holiday, that means we will be meeting on Tuesday. However, almost everyone in our block already felt that there was no class tomorrow. Mondays and Thursdays are our heavy days, with 2 super demanding subjects, it left us with a really light Tuesdays and Fridays. Mostly, we have subjects that are less demanding and gives us less pressure. So it really makes us feel that no worries. To be honest, we've been waiting for this night ever since our professor informed us he won't be having classes.

To enjoy ourselves, my roomies, agreed not open any pressure related item! And we treat ourselves for a movie!:) Plus, we'll be having a goodnight sleep and I can sleep really late and wake up at 12noon tomorrow!

Of Fears and Dreams

7:08:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

I’m in a place unusual to me
A vast ocean where the shore is far-off sight
A forest of many strange looking trees
A place away from my comfort zone

My friends are nowhere to be found
How will I live without them?
Unknown people, that’s all I see
Will they be an ally or a foe?

I’m in a new home
New life it seems
But how will I feel at ease?
When people I used to be with are now out of sight

My whole body trembles
No voice seems to come out of my mouth
Fear and uncertainty rush in my head
My hopes of tomorrow had flown summer else

But wait...
Isn’t that the ship of my ambitions?
Isn’t that the tree of my goals?
In a foreign land, my dreams are almost in my reach

So many questions bothering me
Yet I know the answers are near
Nothing shall I worry out
‘Cause I know it’s God’s plan for me to throw off the usual me

The shore may be far away
Strange looking trees may frighten me
But I am not alone
The sun still shines and the wind still blows

In an unusual land I am travelling
Still sailing and running even with low energy
But why should I stop?
When I’m almost there... near to the fulfilment of my dreams!

I wrote this poem on the first day of my life as a college student.

Just Hold On

4:48:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

Hold on to your dreams
No matter how hard it seem
Your journey to the peak had already started
Let not all your struggles be wasted

When victory seems too far away
Never let your fears and doubts get in the way
Have courage to go on
And after every mistake, learn to move on

Never forget about God
He always offer a helping hand
To help you see the light
So just hold on with all your might

When you feel like you don’t have enough strength
Just believe and be confident
Remember to keep holding on
And you will succeed soon

The Envious One

4:40:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

The One who wasn’t born to shine like the stars in the dark night,
The unlucky maiden who knows nothing but to fight,
In her despair to take a rest, decided to have a flight
She stopped by a place whose breathtaking scenery is such a delight
In the open gates she stood frozen, amazed by what is laid before her sight
People whose majestic beauty’s incomparable even to the most beautiful night
Gifted and skilled they are at everything, and the young maiden’s body became tight
For the world is unjust and life is not fair, human as she is, to contest the natural is not a right
All she wanted is to be the best, on top of that great height
But she is Just average, like a cliché, never enough to give a new insight
Tears began to fall from her eyes, those she kept for years with all her might
She used to put on a happy mask, but now, she need not pretend she’s still alright
Then the young maiden turned her back, still envious of how they shine bright
And she continued with her own fight and made herself believe that everything was just a once-upon-a-time told in the coldest night.

Stupidity Activated

4:27:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

I received a message from a familiar number. Every single neuron in my brain tells me it’s from him. I can’t be wrong. I couldn’t have mistaken it for somebody else. The same text format, words that pierce right through my heart…I knew it was him. It is him. But then foolishness and stupidity got the better of me: I asked him who he was. How lame! He told me he was somebody else. Did he honestly think he could fool me? I knew him far better than he gives me credit for. I know I shouldn’t have asked him who he was, or better yet replied to his message ‘cause I know exactly what would happen. He’d send me messages telling me he’s still into me, making me feel as if he was Bruno Mars who’d catch a grenade for me and I’m the girl who just said Nothing, just as The Script’s song. I’ve received messages like those before…But how come it still crushed my heart? In the middle of the laughter my friends and I shared, he voice suddenly echoed in my head. Oh no! Not good! I shouldn’t be bothered by him anymore, shouldn’t be give him any attention…shouldn’t have felt any guilt rush inside of me…shouldn’t feel any concern for him. Our story has ended. No more pages to be written for him…

I was still earth shaken when someone tapped my back. I saw him approaching, but wasn’t expecting him to talk to me. I was still lost thinking about the other guy when I turned to him and then he asked me if we would still have classes. I tried to gather myself to answer him. I did said something but maybe not good enough. Then he walked away. Good! At least I wouldn't feel more uncomfortable. There’s always that something in him that makes me like him and yet feel so conscious.

They both caught me off guard...same day and just a split second after the other. How come it always have to be this way? The other guy will always have to remind me of the other.I know its my fault. I shouldn't have fallen for them. I shouldn't have been stupid enough to fall for them.

First Day of Being 3rd Year

12:25:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

I can't believe were already in our 3rd year in college and I'm still in the accountancy program!

First day of school always start with an opening program, well, its more of a welcome back old students and hello freshies. For the freshmen, it a really busy day. But for us, its bonding time! Since our teachers aren't really excited to meet us, most of my first day was spent hanging with my friends. Its a day to catch up for the summer vacation. Its a day for fun! We had lunch together, and would have watched a movie, if it weren't for time constraints. While we were waiting for classes to begin(we're actually expecting our teacher won't show up, we ate and ate and laughed and laughed.

Only one teacher showed up to meet us. He's our teacher for our last class of the day. We didn't discuss much. We just passed our form 5s, he introduced himself to us and he gave us the references well be needing for the class.

The day won't complete without having something cold to eat to make up for the VERY HOT weather. Finally, I was able to taste Hershey's Kisses Ice cream. Thanks to my roomies, Nadin and Donna.

That's it!
One Down...Many more days to go!:)
