Whoever said OPM is Dead?

2:29:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

Foreign artist topping charts here and there, sold out albums and concerts. Is there any hope left for OPM? My answer is a resounding yes. Well, I for once never believed that OPM is dead. No matter how many song, album and concert those foreign artists flock to the country, the OPM will always find a way to survive. After all, we're all Pinoy!

The things is, Filipinos should learn to appreciate their own. That is, they should support OPM as well. Why?Here comes Dr. Jose Rizal's infamous quotes.
Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan.
Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika, daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against foreign artists. I have a lot of their songs, in fact, in my playlists. Its  just that I thought and believed that we should also give important to our own tunes.

The Philpop 2013 has just concluded. Philpop is a competition open for all song writers, professional and amateur. This year's winner is DATI, an original composition by Thyro Alfaro & Yumi Lacsamana and interpreted by Sam Concepcion & Tippy Dos Santos feat. Quest. Sam Concepcion, happens to be last year's 2nd runner up, with KONTRABIDA, composed by Soc Villanueva. It pains my heart that Christian Bautista and Marlon Barnuevo's ARAW, ULAP, LANGIT did not make it to the top though. Here are some of the songs for this year.  I just love these songs that I can help but keep playing it again and again.

DATI

ARAW, ULAP, LANGIT

Earlier this year, Himig Handog P-pop Love Songs took place where Aiza Seguerra's interpretation of the song ANONG NAGYARI SA ATING DALAWA won. I loved Toni Gonzaga's KAHIT NA and Yeng Constantino's ALAALA though.

KAHIT NA

ALAALA

Whoever dared to say OPM is dead should take their words. Can't they see that OPM is still alive. OPM songs are still playing on radios, television and still top charts. So what are we you waiting for? LET'S SUPPORT OPM! :)

My Weekend Getaways

“When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching -- they are your family. ”

No matter what happens, whether you succeed or fail, happy or not, perfect or imperfect, your family will be there for you. In my case, distance and years of being apart was not a reason them to forget or ignore me. Actually, it sort made us want to spend more time and do some catching up during weekends.

First Stop: Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City

This is no strange place for me. I grew up in this place. This time though, I spent some time at my cousin's house, Ate Annie and made a stop at our old house and visited my uncle their. I really can't remember much about the place but I kinda felt that feeling of being home when I went there. From Citadel, where we stayed for the duration of our OJT, my cousin/ninong Kuya Tonet drove me to Guadulupe and I got the chance to me his suuuppeer cute child, Gavin and his wife, which is a first for me.

Second Stop: Taguig City
Following a night at Guadulupe, Tito Dodoy fetched me and we went to his house and had a great Sunday bonding with each other.

This is happiness!
Third Stop: Pampanga
My aunt, Tita Ruth, had been insisting since Maundy Thursday, for me to visit her. Well, due to time constraints and the adjustment period, I was not able to visit her earlier. But alas, two weeks before we head home, I was able to set foot in Pampanga. The reason why we were there was not exactly something to be happy about because it was the death anniversary of my uncle. Anyways, I'm pretty sure we all had a great time their, not to mention our bulging tummies! Plus, we get to take home A LOT of Pampanga's best. Its a shame that I can't take it all the way home to Capiz though.

These are just a few from what Tita Ruth prepared for us.

Me spending time with them means so much to me. Somehow, I got closer to them and it felt like I'm more confident and at home when I'm with them, which is a far cry from what I used to be. I'm just so happy and blessed to be a part of this family. Well, who wouldn't be?

Of Delays and Inevitabilities

She’s been sitting in front of the mirror for nearly an hour, deciding whether to braid her hair or just let it down. She spent 2 hours earlier changing clothes until she opted to settle with a striped blue blouse, jeans and her Cinderella doll shoes. She had been waiting for this night to come, carefully planning what to do, how to act and what to wear. Now, as she stared gloomily at her reflection, she realized all those late night sleeps had been for nothing. She’s as unprepared as ever, and she could feel her heart wanting to escape the confines of her fragile body. 30 minutes before 6 pm, she elected to leave her house. ’I still have an hour before the reunion begins,’ she said. With that, she played the entire possible scenario that could happen tonight. She will see him. He will be there with his gorgeous wife, looking so in love and perfect together. Or he will be there, alone. Or, worst, she won’t even get to catch a glimpse of him. As the stars begin to sparkle in sky, she could not make up her mind as to what picture she prefers.

He came in early, a first for him. He never really showed up on events on time. He never liked waiting, except for that one rare time, when he decided to wait for eternity, only to find out that he waited in vain. Ever since, he never had the patience to wait for anyone.

He talked with a bunch of people, most of whom, he couldn’t even remember back in high school. Then as if the world shifted its center of gravity, he saw her enter the venue. Still keeping a low profile huh, he thought. She aged, he could see that. But there was something quite disturbing about her. As to what, he doesn’t have a clue.

She saw her friends waving at her. At once, she went to greet them and spent some minutes catching up with one another. The group became bigger and bigger that she couldn’t help but want air. She excused herself and went outside hoping to gather the strength to talk to him. From the corners of her eye, she had been keeping watch on him the moment she entered the room.

“You still like the wind, don’t you?”

She need not glance back to know that it was him. He’s the only one who knows how much she loves the wind. His voice hasn’t changed at all, she thought.

“I guess so,”

By now he is just a foot away from her. She couldn’t help but wish they could be alone, if only for an hour.

“It’s pretty crowded inside, would you like to go somewhere peaceful?” he said, as if reading her mind.

Before she could even utter a word, he took her hand and led her to their spot as lovers. He wiped the swing and gestured for her to have a seat.

“I’m assuming you want to talk to me about something,” she finally said, after a moment of awkward silence.

“I could say the same to you,”

She heard him pause, and then breathed heavily.

“Well, let’s just say that tonight I finally mustered the courage to ask you this. ‘Why did you leave me?’I think I deserve a better explanation. I’m not settling with that I’m-busy-with-studies-I-have-no-time crap.”

He deserved to know the truth. She denied him that for 16 years. They were never official, they feel the same for each other but they never got to the point of being together. While on their first year in college and in different universities, one day, she just decided to end whatever they have. He tried to reach her so many times but eventually gave up. To make matters worse, she even said she loved somebody else. She did, but only after 6 years of being separated from each other. She had a few relationships after that, but always, she knew that she should be in someone else’s arms.

“I’m sorry. I know you’ve been through worse...”

“I’ve been through hell because of you.”

She can sense his hatred towards her now. “I know. I just couldn’t block news of you. I’m sorry, I really do.” She wanted to hold his hands, look straight into his eyes, but she knew the moment she does that, she’ll be vulnerable.

“I wanted to tell you the truth, but I just can’t.I... “

“You could have just told me you never loved me.”

His pitch rose. He saw her tightened her grip on the ropes, and then stood up, her back in front of him.

“That would be a lie then, “

“Oh really? I tried to win you back but just shut me out. Even a text saying ‘let’s be friends’ would have sufficed.”

He knew she was sobbing now. He wished she wouldn’t look at him. He just couldn’t take seeing her cry, more so because of him. So he turned his back, intending to leave. Before he could take a step forward, she caught his hand.

“I ,I, I just can’t expect you to wait for me for another 5 years. You waited for me for 3 years. I’ve kept you waiting for too long. I just couldn’t make you wait until forever. “

With that she let him go.

“I thought you were smart.”

He waited for her reply, but she was far too engrossed with crying and self pity. He touched her face, and just then he realized what disturbed him earlier. Her eyes weren’t the same as before. He knew it wasn’t just the tears. He could see that the light from her eyes had gone away. All he could see know is darkness, immeasurable sadness and loneliness.

“When I said I was going to wait for you for all eternity, I meant it. I thought you’ll be happier without me so somehow I made myself believe that I’m doing the best for you. When I heard you were getting married, I nearly drunk myself to death. Then I heard news of your fiancé cheating on you. You know how hard that must have been for me? I basically had to chain myself to keep me from killing him.”

He saw her mouth move to form a smile. He had replayed these moments with her for countless times. But this smile is by far the sweetest and most beautiful of all. He found himself moving closer to kiss her and stopped when he realized that he might be moving too fast.

Then she let out a laugh. He can’t believe how much he missed her laugh.

“What’s funny?”

“Nothing,” She paused. “I may sound stupid for asking this, but I just have to ask it anyway.”

“Go on,”

“I just hope I’m not too late to ask this. But would you like to continue writing our story? This time, I’ll be waiting for you.”

“You’re the smart one. I can’t write stuffs like that. But I can give you an inspiration, if you want.”

Then without second thoughts, he leaned to kiss her. He could feel her giving herself to him.

“Does star gazing sound appealing to you?”

“Sounds fun,” she said. She wanted to tell him anything will be fun whenever his around.

As they lay on the grass looking at the star that shines so bright in the night sky, she couldn’t help but think what she did to deserve a guy like him. She thanked the heavens above for giving her the chance to correct her mistakes, for letting her write the continuation of their love story, even after all these years.

Childhood Nostalgia: Card Captor Sakura Remake

8:33:00 PM ivannejuare 0 Comments

On Saturday mornings when I was still a child, I used to wake up early just to watch Card Captor Sakura. Perhaps it was because Sakura and I were the same age when CCS was shown here in the Philippines that I begun to love the show. Or maybe it was Syaoran? Or Yue? Or Touya? And the list would go on and on.

Yesterday, as was my habit when I have no classes, I logged in to Facebook and was so thrilled when The Otaku Paradise page posted something about plans to remake CCS. I just couldn't contain my excitement that I instantly searched the net for any confirmations. And found out a few articles about it.

It think it's pretty weird that this week I just feel inclined to watch some scenes from CCS. I watched the last 2 episodes of the anime and wanted to have a copy of the movies but I can't find any. T_T Also, I got so lost watching some SyaoSaku moments that I had forgotten that I still have school works due for the next day. Well, I guess, there really are no coincidences, huh?

My thoughts on the remake? I am soooo excited to have a remake! I really miss Syaoran and Sakura and their sweet moments. kyaaa! But since the original anime have been so good, I would really have high expectations for the remake. Its ok for me if the remake would really follow the manga's story though. Also, I want it to be as interesting and fun as the original. If the remake is really in the works, then it must only be as good or even better as the original. Otherwise, they would just ruin my childhood memories and just destroy CCS.

CCS is the main reason why I love anime and why I love anime with swords, arrows and magical stuffs. haha. I am soo looking forward for the Remake and really hoping that it won't be a disaster. :)

EKsperiencing the Magic

3:05:00 AM ivannejuare 0 Comments

Sometimes we just can't help but do what we were forbidden to do. And that's exactly what we did.

To make our OJT experience even more memorable, we decided to go to Enchanted Kingdom, despite having all the odds against us. We arrived at EK around 5 pm, and we got lost because we lost the bus would really pass by the amusement park.

Experiencing the Magic for the first time.

The ferris wheel. too bad we didn't have time to ride it.

Coz we got wet on our first ride. haha

Space Shuttle. My heart wouldn't survive this ride.

And wet we are again. :)

Wishing well, Up Up and Away, Anchors Away (gasp), Merry Go round and Dodgem.

Rialto Day and Night.

Don't forget to try the blizzard of DQ. haha

It really wont fall even if its already upside down.

Jessel's Eldar Stuffed Toy. kawaii!

Right after surviving the Rio Grande.

After the log jam and I tell you, Lecza screamed like never before.

When it's time for us to go home, we found out that the shuttle service of SM has reservations and it's already full. Good thing Donna and I have a friend at Laguna who we met during our OJT stay at P&A. He instructed us where and how to go to the bus terminal. It really is all thanks to him that we were able to go home. And for that, thank you Aldrich! :)

Although we weren't able to make us of our unlimited rides pass, we all did have fun. Hopefully, we could return there again someday! haha
